After adding our mudroom and salvaging many old houses, we have several stacks of brick, just waiting on a patio or sidewalk project. I noticed the other day that the old brick sitting in the shade has grown quite mossy. To me, it almost looks like fur or carpeting. In any event, I thought it was pretty enough to share with you.
P.S. Ironically enough, I had this post drafted and ready to go, when I read this interview I read in The Sun magazine about biology, nature and sustainability. This is the answer given to the question, “What has moss taught you?”. (I love The Sun, by the way. It’s a little pricey, but I read it cover to cover each month.

We live in the woods in a clearing. We are not able to have grass in our front yard due to almost total lack of sun. Over the years moss has taken our yard over. It is so soft on your feet and we do nothing to it! It really looks pretty, like nice grass. It returns every spring looking so green and velvety.

I love moss. It is so special. I look for it everywhere, and when I find it, I pet it. I’m 60 years old, for goodness sake, and my love of moss has been with me for as long as I can remember. I can never get enough. Thank you for sharing these pictures.
