I wanted you all to know my major news.
I’ve accepted a job at the Stephen F. Austin State University working in their marketing department, and today is my first day of work.
(The marketing department is housed in the Austin Building pictured above.)
If you’re wondering if this change will affect my blog, that’s certainly NOT my hope or my plan!
Also, I’ll still be working with Mark and Chad as I can on days off, weekends, and evenings. Certainly, I’ll lend a hand when it comes to doing research on old homes to salvage, but they’ll be taking the lead on doing the physical labor part.
Anyway, I’m excited about this new chapter in my life. I missed not having a regular paycheck and medical benefits, plus all the other positive things that come with working full-time.
Please wish me luck!

Congratulations Kim! I wish all the success in the world on your new adventure. I do hope you will still have time for your blog,. Though I rarely comment your blog is my favorite.
Bonne Chance!
Kim says
Aw, I’m thrilled to hear you say that. Thanks, Claudia!

Hey Kim,
Wishing you the very best of luck with your new venture or adventure…which ever way you want to look at it.
I had total knee replacement on the 4th of April and have been in physical therapy 2 to 3 times a week since then. Recovering well according to the therapists and the surgeon, but just not near fast enough for me. I had back surgery January 29th to decompress the vertebrae (L-2 thru L-5) for the sciatic nerves to go thru without being squeezed. My next adventure will be hip replacement, but have to get the knee right first. Not the way I wanted to spend the past year (going thru the processes to finally get to the surgeries) and now looks like this year as well, but with the recoveries….a better place to be, I must admit, but still not what I want to be doing!
You and Mark take care and if you’re ever in our neck of the woods, give us a call!
Love and Hugs, Drue

Goodness gracious, Drue! I really feel for you. We will definitely give you a shout next time we’re near you. Take good care of yourself!

What a pretty school! Good luck Kim!

It’s a gorgeous campus and building (one of many) in the oldest town in Texas.

Congratulations, Kim! With your talent, you don’t need luck, but I certainly wish you the best in this new career path! Even if it is the school that knocked us out of the NCAA tournament right odd the bat! My very dear friend here hails from SFA. In her words, “go, Jacks!”
Kim says
Ha! I didn’t know you are a sports fan. Thanks always for thinking so highly of me. 🙂

Congratulations on your new job! Been meaning to comment for a while since you changed your blog style. I loved and miss the old blog when you guys were out dismantling houses and showing the salvaged wood and other fantastic architectural pieces that you found. I guess I loved the creative side of the old blog. Anyway, best of luck in your new venture and I understand the importance of having a regular paycheck and insurance.
Kim says
Julia, I admit my blog has evolved in unexpected ways. We are definitely planning future salvage and old home renovation projects. We’re actually talking to someone about their old house, and I hope to be blogging about it very soon! Too, my husband and brother intend to build furniture (and maybe tiny houses) using reclaimed materials and when that happens (notice I didn’t say “if”), I’ll most definitely be blogging about it. Thanks for the feedback!
Sally says
Congratulations! You are going to be hell on wheels!! I’m excited for you and can’t wait to hear how it goes. And….for goodness sake, even if you are making a great living…remember NO PERMS!! HA!
Kim says
LOL, Sally! I gave up on perms a looooong time ago. Way too many bad experiences if you know what I mean? So far, so good with the new job. Thanks for your sweet, kind wishes.

Kim, this is indeed good news, I understand about the security that comes with a “normal” job. There will be many times that we have to make changes in our lives to adapt to this ever-changing world. Congrats and good luck!!!
