We saw this memorial on a recent trip of Austin.
It reminded me of a favorite song and how very short life can be and how fragile we all are.

How said to see something like that, but oh such a great reminder. Thanks for sharing it. Jo

Yes, I thought it was a pretty and fitting memorial. Thanks, Joanne!

Unfortunately, this happens way to frequently. I don’t know if people don’t see the bicyclists, are distracted, or just misjudge the distance to go around. I’ve given up riding my road bike- it’s just too scary!

Yeah, I was into road biking for awhile, but I was a much more avid mountain biker simply because I agree, riding a road bike was way too scary for me.

Yes, it’s sad. Our town recently passed an ordinance where vehicles must allow 3 feet for cyclists. I have a 2001 DVD of Sting’s, “all this time”, wherein he performed this song live in Italy on the night of the attack on the US WTC. Very good.

Austin is a very bike-friendly city with bike lanes, etc. but still, people are killed periodically, some of it due to road rage. I love Sting and own at least 4 of his albums. I had a huge crush on him at one time.

I am all far bike safety and sharing the road. But all too often I see and experience “rude” cyclist who choose to ride in the middle of the road with little regard for who or what is behind them. These people are not doing anyone a favor least of all themselves.

I totally agree that adherence to laws and common courtesy should extend both ways.
