Do you think this quote is depressing? I’d be interested to know your opinion.
As for me, I think it’s a beautiful way to describe an overcast day at the beach, something I’ve experienced a few times in my lifetime . . . and loved.
By the way, the quote came from Ann Leary’s book, The Good House. Have you had a chance to read it yet? If not, you might want to because I just found out that the book will be made into a movie soon, starring Meryl Streep and Robert DeNiro!
I think it’s a beautiful quote. Maybe because I grew up on the beach and saw that beauty many times.
I have to get to that book!
I don’t think it depressing, but ethereal, I’ll check out the book. Have a great rest of the week.
Ethereal! I like it! Thanks, Heather!
No, I don’t think it’s depressing. Instead I find it to be the perfect description of a very calming scene.
Awesome! Thanks, Cecilia.
I love the quote and agree it and the image are ethereal and serene but somehow powerful, too. I loved the book, The Good House, too. It was some time ago, but the story has stuck with me. I’m so glad you shared it’s going to be a movie. The casting in my mind seems perfect. Can’t wait to see how it turns out!
Thanks, Barbara. As an author yourself, I’m sure you realize the power of a beautifully written sentence or paragraph. I’m looking forward to the movie, too. I’m a fan of both actors, Meryl Streep especially.
Imagine the quiet and solitude. A time for reflection with an environment void of everything. Leaves me imagining a moment lost within my own thoughts. It is calm. A surreal peace and serenity. The quote describes the picture so completely that you can see yourself standing right there in the midst of it. And amazingly, it does so in few words! Thanks for sharing this! Not depressing! Awakening, refreshing, thought provoking!
What a beautiful way to describe the scene. I wish I had your gift for words, Bill! Thanks so much!!!
Just yesterday I read that , thought to myself hmm I know who wrote that one ! The book was very good and I am going to read all of her work.
I don’t find the quote depressing at all. It happens everyday around bodies of water.
Small world, Karen! Glad to hear that you and others don’t view the quote negatively. 🙂
Hi Kim, Thanks for the book reviews. I just finished the” Lost Art of Mixing” by Erica Bauermeister
It is about a young woman who runs a restaurant in a small house and about the people who work at and come to the restaurant. I picked it up to read at an airport and found it very endearing. I was sad to have it end. The characters were lovely. You never know someone’s story and when you do it you become filled with love and understanding. Have a wonderful day.
Thanks so much for the book recommendation! I am always looking for good books to read.
