I’ve got to say that I’m feeling a little bit blue this week . . . for several reasons.
First, I found out mid week that even though we led the contest the first couple of weeks, the monster blog Freshome (with over 1 million Facebook followers) is now in first place. I’m afraid that David is not going to beat Goliath this time around.
Next, while preparing for future Friday Favorites posts, I received snippy emails from two bloggers. One said “I have to say I don’t really understand your blog. Everything is ‘coming soon’.” Seriously? I know I’m behind (who isn’t?) but was there a reason to be so petty? Another sounded quite perturbed that I would even suggest that I admired and wanted to feature one of her images.
(A side note: I have to admit though that most people are extremely gracious, kind, and appreciative as I always, always am when someone offers to show my work to their audiences!)
Third, our clothes dryer died on Thursday. Fortunately, my sweet husband offered to take two loads of wet clothes to the laundromat to dry them and we bought the extended service plan. Fingers crossed, the repair will cost us nothing but time and inconvenience.
Fourth and most important reason: I just like the color blue! Do you?
P.S. Sorry to be such a downer.
a gorgeous Scottish ghost sign
pretty pottery that pays homage to vintage crochet and embroidered handcrafted lace
a wonderful image of an abandoned homestead
a beautiful bench on the porch of Rachel Ashwell’s Texas retreat
a very pretty still life that makes you appreciate the simple things in life

I have read other blogs that show horrific comments made by readers. Your comments were rude, but some have been brutal. A woman told a designer that her rooms were terrible and that she would never pay a cent for the blogger to redecorate anything in her home.
It always brings me back to the thought of why do people follow your blog if they don’t enjoy it. Never never would I leave a negative comment. If I don’t like something on line, isn’t it just soooo easy to hit a delete button?
Keep in mind that for someone to be so terribly rude, that they must have some real problems in their life to spew out such meanness. Don’t be hurt by the comments, feel sympathy for the ones that know such bitterness and move on.

OK, Kim we all have weeks like that. Y’all just have to learn to roll with it and move on. Life didn’t promise us all roses like we would like to have. Now with that said, in your last post you were talking about antique shows. I have a better idea, estates sales and or estate auctions. You have a pretty good one very close to y’all called Nacogdoches Auction. They also have an Antique Market at the same location. Is located six miles south of Nacogdoches on hwy 59. I’ll post a couple of links at the end of this post. When you go to the auction zip site, contact the auctioneer and tell her (Bonnie Worley) that you want to get on her email list. That way you won’t miss any of the upcoming auctions. there is one on this Saturday in Lufkin and one you don’t want to miss. that one well be an antique store going out of business. Yes, I know I’m a newbie on here, but you are some very good blogs.

Dave,
Absolutely! I love going to estate sales and auctions. I’ve been to Bonnie’s auctions and retail location several times. I also attend others when I hear about them. For example, Jenny Johnston and her good friend, Frances, have an estate sale company. If you like, I can send you her info?
Have a great weekend, Dave!

I totally agree with Jo Stone’s comment. I LOVE your Friday Favs. Keep them coming please. I am so far behind I think I’m in first, teeheehee! You’re ahead of me getting things done. Have a great weekend!

Love your Blog — Love seeing all the photos of old houses. Know that you bring smiles to many people.
I have realized a while back (thankfully) that some people are just not happy unless they know they are making someone else un-happy. I think when we know we have done our best God graces us with so much goodness that we can easily overcome the mean spirited.
All the best with the Dryer 🙂

Very lovely collection of photos as always. I love that vintage-y blue, it reminds me of the sky right after a storm or delicate China porcelain…. so it’s great that a lot of these pictures have a vintage feel! Thanks for sharing.

Well I must say, you have had your emotional plate full! I’m not going to tell you to “not be hurt” or “ignore them”. You have every right to feel hurt by the emails from other bloggers. Same business, peers, yeah, I’d be hurt. If you didn’t feel that way you would not be human! That said; feel it, deal with it, then carry on.
Now, I’m newish here too and I love your blog. I will add that the “coming soon” does not bother me one ounce! Have a beautifully blessed weekend, Hope

Like Jo said, someone must have had a bad day. I’ve been on the receiving end of a few snipes, but just consider that they cannot help themselves. Some people are just mean and have no grace or boundaries.
Keep smiling! Kindness prevails!

I love your blog! All the lovely photos and sharing. You keep on doing what you do. It’s heart warming and makes my gray days, sunny. It’s hard when our feelings get hurt. Especially when trying to do something nice for others. If we didn’t have some bad days, we’d never realize how good the good days are. 🙂

I was so hoping you would win the contest, but it isn’t over yet and to just be nominated – what an honor. As for the snippy and “snotty” remarks, just let them go, don’t let a few ruin all the good comments you get. And seriously, for the “coming soon comment”, when have you ever done that. Some of the large blogs (one is mentioned in your blogroll) show teasers all the time, just show me already, it drives me crazy. I love, love your blog and you know I have been a follower for quite a while, so while blue is a great color, don’t be.

Hi Kim,
I am a loyal reader of your blog. I must be missing the “coming soon” thing. I do not recall you doing that, so it must not be a big deal to me. It sounds like no big deal to others either! 🙂 To add my 2 cents worth, rude women that make those comments to you about your blog are more than likely jealous that you were nominated for the contest you are in. They are miserable (I want to use a bad word here, but I will not bow down to their level), women that want to take your sunshine away from you. DO NOT LET THEM! They are haters, and you are a wonderful person, so much better than they are! I love your blog and look forward to your Friday feature each week.
Keep you spirits up, you are loved by many of us! 🙂
Blessings

Kim ….there are a LOT of mean, nasty people in the world. My mother always told me if I I didn’t have anything nice to say, then don’t say anything at all. I try to live by that rule, always think twice when I post something online and I am so grateful I don’t know these cruel people. They just suck the life out of everything and when it comes right down to it, really, their opinion means squat and they have just announced to the world what they’re really made of. At least that’s what I think when I read responses like that.
You contacted me regarding one of my photos so I have just started following along in the last couple weeks.
Always be the bigger person. Every time.
Have a good weekend and let that kinda crap roll off your back.
Karma is slow but when Karma comes along … you get what you give.

Hey there, I love your blog too! Nerts to those meanies! For every one of them, there are a hundred out here rooting for you, thanks for making the effort not only with your blog, but with your business which means so much to me and others. I value so much the work you do to preserve old things and bring them back to life and the documentation of that that you do. Your blog is interesting, thought provoking, and beautiful. They should be so lucky! . And, I value you saving that poor stray doggie a while ago! I hope he’s either your dog now, or has found a happy new home. So, as my mom would say, you have lots of stars in your crown. Also, I love these pictures, blue is one of my favorite colors, and I love stormy days and grey-blue skies, so this works for me. Plus, I wish I had a waist the size of that apron model up there!

One more thing. I’ve never heard of that other blog before, so I went and looked at it. It’s cute, but yours is better. 🙂

I would like to be put on your mailing list. Thanks and I love the apron.

WOW I hope these “Blog Moderators” don’t comment on my site. I don’t like those people who start a site/blog with the agenda of becoming hip. I feel that people think that I may be following some trend, but my likes started before the internet or bragging. I found your site when I was google’ling layers of roofing for photos, that one post(Starting Chapter Two) made me interested in reading your site. I don’t care how organized, grammar correct or up with the main stream it is…Not everyone has an agenda….Though I do have one serious bad comment, it took me a bit to find the post comment button lol 🙂

Hi, I love your blog and that APRON is sooo cute! Where did you find it??? Can I order one online??? Also just try and ignore the “ignorant” remarks that some people have to make; just shows what they are made of which is jealousy and and hate! It”s much better to be made of hope and happiness and love!!!! Sandee from Fairfax Va.
