Football schmootball.
I’ve never been a fan.
I’ve never even sat through an entire game.
Wait. I take that back. I used to cross-stitch a lot and that was about the only time I could sit still for longer than three minutes of the game.
I’m not that big of a sports fan, really.
Honestly, about the only sports I watch devotedly are the Olympics.
But ya know, I believe football season is about as American as Mom and apple pie and well … Norman Rockwell … and I thought, gee whiz, I would be remiss if I didn’t at least mention the start of football season last week.
Plus, it gave me an excuse to share these vintage football illustrations that I really think are quite sweet.
I love illustrations, don’t you?
I can think of a few reasons why I like football season, though.
I like this time of year because my sweet husband is usually glued to the television
…. which gives me an excuse to write and read.
Also, when football starts, I know that cooler weather and the holidays will be here soon.
I can almost smell it.
I know that sounds really weird, but it’s true.
So, I kinda don’t like football season, but then I kind of do.
How about you? Are you a football fan?

I’m a fan of football AND a fan of vintage advertising. Good combination for a post!

I knew about the former, but wasn’t sure about the latter. Thanks, Cher!

These are wonderful images. I always enjoyed watching HS football when my kids were in school. Knowing the kids who were playing was the fun. However, not much a fan. Maybe a little of my college teams games now and then. But I love the Football Season marks the beginning of fall. And I love that you cross stitch while games are playing. A gal after my own heart. I am new to your blog, enjoying it, very much!

Welcome, welcome! I had forgotten about high school. I was in drill team and then I really got into it when my brother’s football team went to (and won) the state championship. So, I guess it all depends if you can connect somehow with someone on the team. My college (University of North Texas) didn’t have much of a football team, and I was a study-holic.

Oh my! I was a drill team-er, as well. Or as we my girl friends and fellow teammates called ourselves, “Thrill Team” It is now “dance team” at my former HS. We were known for our high kicks lines. Oh, those were the days, when I could kick high and not feel it for days afterwards!

I’ve always loved to dance and drill team gave me an outlet to do so. I really enjoyed it. My town and high school was TINY so our drill team was only 8(?) girls or so. We had fun though.
