I’ve decided.
I’m going to teach myself how to use Photoshop.
You know, that monstrously HUGE, do-I-dare-learn-it-because-it-will-make-me-feel-like-an-idiot computer program that, like Google, is often used as a verb?
As in:
(a) “Did you Google that guy who asked you out?” “Yeah–he’s crazy. He Photoshopped his last girlfriend out of all his pictures!”)
(This a direct quote from a Photoshop book I just bought.)
or
(b) this scene from the movie, Crazy Stupid Love … (a very good, very funny movie I highly recommend).
Why am I attempting to learn new software with such a steep learning curve?
I want to do fun stuff with photos and share those photos on my blog and Facebook page.
For example:
1. Make things larger than life … just because it’s fun.
2. Add cool frames to photos.
3. Make a photo look vintage-y.
(We are a vintage company after all.)
4. Add editorial detail to photos.
5. Add a quote to an image.
6. Create a product collage.
7. Change the colorization of a photo in a wide variety of ways.
8. Create storyboards.
9. Add a watermark to a photo so that my photos are not (un)intentionally used without proper credit.
I could go on and on and on — I told you it was a massive program! — but, alas, I don’t want to jinx myself.
Just pray for me, OK?

A lot of the things you want to do can be done easily with no learning curve (and free) at http://www.picmonkey.com/. BUT if you really want to learn Photoshop, sign up at http://www.lynda.com/. It has great tutorials and is really cheap. Even has a 7-day free trail to see if you like it. Love Picmonkey though! Good luck!

I’ve tried the free services before like BigHugeLabs.com, and althought I can accomplish some things, they’re very limiting. My husband is a professional photographer and uses a newer version of Photoshop, so I loaded the older CS4 to my PC. Looking forward to learning it when I can find the time. In the meantime, thanks for th recommendation. I’ll have to check it out.

Hey, if you have an in-house Photoshop expert, go for it. I’d forgotten your hubby had another mode than house salvaging!

Yeah, that’s my attitude.
My husband tried to teach me some basic stuff in Photoshop, but you know how that goes when an expert teaches a newbie. It was like, “This is so easy. Let me show you.” 25 actions later he says, “Now wasn’t that easy?” Well, no, not really.
Still, he is always around if I get stuck.
