Guess what. We’re starting an old home salvage project today.
Yes, I know I said we were taking time off, but my dear husband could not resist signing up to tear down this old place.
I can’t say that I blame him. At one time, I really wanted to salvage it also.
But, I really, really wanted to take a break more.
Oh well, I have a husband that supported me getting started in this business, and I need to do the same for him now.
So say ‘hello’ to the house on Bolton.
It is, by far, the largest house we’ve tackled so far.
This house will be a little different than the other six we’ve salvaged. Because there is a huge hole in the roof (not pictured) and the rest of the roof is in really bad shape, we’ll probably be taking this one apart from the top down.
The Bolton house is sitting on a pretty busy thoroughfare through Jacksonville, and similar to our project in Nacogdoches, it’s sitting on commercial property for sale.
To give you an idea of the surrounding neighborhood, this old house sits about a 100 yards from this old painted lady Victorian. It’s been on the market awhile, and what a steal at $95,000. It’s just not in a very desirable neighborhood.
That’s too bad because it sure is pretty.
The Bolton house is also right down the road from this old, once majestic, Victorian.
Like the Bolton house, it’s also abandoned. We contacted the owner, but they’re not sure what they want to do with it.
It has gorgeous architectural details, like the peaked sunburst pediment at each gable end and lots of corbels. You know I love corbels.
If they decide to tear it down, we definitely would be interested. AFTER we take a much needed break … of course.
In the coming days and weeks, I’ll be sharing more of our newest salvage project. Until then, please wish us luck!
P.S. Obviously, we did finish our project in Nacogdoches. The owners were thrilled. I’ll post about that soon!

It’s a beauty! Those columns! Yum. But a huge project. You’ll be beyond needing a break at the end of this one! Good luck. I enjoy your posts…and columns. Teehee.

One good thing about it. We can start removing lumber from day one. No drywall, no carpet. So that (hopefully) will make things go much faster.

Your blog so fascinates me. I would love to live a day in your shoes. To be able to touch all that history. Continued blessing to you and yours.

I didn’t know you had a blog! I’ll definitely check it out. Think about writing a guest post for my blog sometime!

Thank you for the invite. I will definitely consider the guest post. I’m hoping to start on our “Diner Style Kitchen” soon. I’m sure that will inspire a few blogs. In the meantime feel free to share any of my little posts.

Kim, I am so glad that Y’all are salvaging the old house on Bolton and I to wish someone would take the other old grand ladies in town and fix them back up to their rightful stature. I have been wanting to salvage or get someone to salvage a old house that was donated to the Maydelle Vol Fire Dept. The house is no where near as grand as the Victorians, but it is old and has some neat old lumber in the walls, hate to see it wasted, when I know it could make beautiful floors, walls, and or furniture! I got Y’alls phone number off of the banner on the old Bolton house, so might give you a call, even if you do need a break, maybe you could give me some pointers. Can’t get the guys interested, they just want to doze it! 🙁

Might just do that, so don’t be surprised if you see a old, spiky, bleached blonde show up! LOL

Fantastic! I hope you do.
