I have to show you the jewelry tree that Mark built for me using old doorknobs and an old porch post we salvaged from one of the old houses we dismantled in Jacksonville. (The porch posts supported the old carport.)
I knew one of them was destined to become a jewelry tree when I spotted this inspirational idea on Pinterest.
The first thing I did after buying several orphaned, old knobs at an antique store was clean the old porch post.
Then, Mark made a wooden stand for the post since it needed to sturdily stand upright.
After that was done, we drilled multiple holes in the porch column. We staggered the holes so that my necklaces would hang freely.
Also, we chose a drill bit that was slightly smaller than the doorknob hardware. After the holes were drilled, we gently forced the knob hardware into the holes. It was such a snug fit, we didn’t even have to glue them.
Next, I had an old round finial that I thought would look pretty on top of the post so that was nailed to the top of the post.
After that, I liberally painted oil-based polyurethane to the entire jewelry tree and allowed it to dry throughly.
We brought it into the house the next day, and I had fun arranging my jewelry on it.
I’m delighted how it turned out!
Oh, and if you like my mosaic wall, you can read about it here.

I have never seen or think of such an unique jewelry “tree”. It looks really fantastic but I think it is possible to paint it like a real tree. What do you think?
Kim says
That would certainly be a unique way to make one. Heck, you could even use a big branch from a real tree, in my opinion.
Linda Nelson says
That’s really pretty, and just the right height, too. I love displayed baubles and such.
Trish says
This is so cool. I love it.

Love your jewelry tree, that is so incredible. Took some work and patience too it looks like. Love also it’s one of a kind, nobody else will have one. Will you keep it do you think or eventually sell it. Wish we could find a porch post. Glad you shared this awesome idea. Enjoy seeing your pretties displayed, can find them all now.
Happy week

I will probably keep the one shown in the photos, but we’re planning to make more for sale.

I have collected some interesting door knobs and thought that one day I would have enough to make a coat rack using the knobs. I didn’t figure out how I was going to get the square rod into the round hole. You gave me the solution. Thanks.
